Teaching (B.Sc. LT) is a comprehensive 3-year TESOL Degree course specially
designed to groom English language teachers. A student can take up to maximum of
6 years to complete the course. EligibilityThe Course, Bachelor of Science in Language Teaching, is designed for those who have successfully completed 12 years of schooling (10 + 2 pattern) or equivalent as defined by the local Government. Fee Structure

B.Sc.LT provides two enrollment/admission drives per year pertaining to two
semesters of 6 months each. End of each semester would ideally be marked by an
examination. However, candidates are allowed to carry forward one semester and

Examination will be conducted by SMU after every semester. Detailed Rules
and Regulations and examination circular will be informed by the Controller
of Examination (COE), 6/8 weeks before commencement of the university
examinations. Candidates will be informed accordingly.
All modules in all semesters are examinable.
All exams would be closed book examinations.
All the Projects undertaken by students will be examined by SMU.
Examination Centres – Kolkata (India), Bangkok (Thailand)
TEFL International will provide accommodation assistance to candidates
arriving at Kolkata or Bangkok for examination
Pre-exam formality
The candidate is informed about the examination schedule and center
specifications through the admit card, the website http://dde.smuhts.edu and
TEFL International.
Eligible candidate will receive admit card 2/4 weeks before the exam.
Examination date will be communicated 30 days prior to the exam.
Reappearing if failed or skipped exam
If a student fails to clear one or more paper(s), he/she has to reappear for
the relevant paper by applying to the University through the re-sitting
application along with relevant fees, within the due date specified by the
University.
Fees
US$ 10 per paper (1 – 3 papers)
US$ 30 per paper (4 or more papers)
The assessment will be done as per the following pattern:
Theory : 4200 marks
Teaching Practice : 400 marks
Project : 200 marks
For theory subjects, 30% of credit will be assigned for Internal Assessment
(IA) and 70% of credit for University Examination (UE). Continuous
assessment will be done through assignments and practical culminating into
the final examination.
Internal Assignments/ Assessment are linked to the final exams. The score is
submitted to the University as per the University regulations.
In each subject, a student should secure at least 35% marks in continuous
evaluation and 35% more in the university examination and a consolidated
average of 40% to be declared 'pass'.
It will take minimum of 60 days to announce the results. Results will be
published on the website http://smuhmts.edu and the 'Mark card' will be
couriered. However, students have to download the forms in order to apply
for the marks / consolidated marks card.
Evaluation is done as per the following grading system, based on the
student’s performance:
A = Excellent (+70%)
B = Very Good (+60%)
C = Good (+50%)
D = Satisfactory (+40%)
E = Failure
The student of final semester of degree will have to submit the Degree
Issuance Application along with the requisite fee as prescribed by the
University during their final semester. The application form can be
downloaded from the University website.
Student must submit the A level / Degree certificate duly notarized by any
notary public or attested by Indian Embassy along with the form.
Marks card would be sent once the results are announced.
It would take 6/8 months or more to give the formal degree certificate.
However, the time would vary depending upon SMU’s decision.
